Some areas in Northern and Central Luzon will continue to experience lights rains today.
 
According to PAGASA, the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan prevails in Northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with light rains in Cordillera, Batanes, Babuyan, Cagayan and Ilocos Norte. In Isabela, Aurora and Quezon, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced due to the Tail-End of a Cold Front. In the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, partly cloudy to cloudy skies will be experienced but localized thunderstorms are still possible.
 

 
Because of the surge of Amihan, gale warning is still in effect off the seaboards of Northern Luzon where wave height may reach up to 3.4 to 4.5 meters. Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves in Batanes, the Babuyan Group of Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, the northern and eastern coasts of Cagayan, Isabela.
 
Supermoon brightened the sky
Last night, a larger and brighter moon graced the skies to the delight of selenophiles or moon lovers.
This astronomical event happens when the moon, at a full phase, coincides with the perigee or its closest distance to the Earth. Yesterday, the moon reached its perigee at 4:43 PM and its full phase at 11:47 PM. PAGASA said that the moon appeared 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual.
 

A brewing tropical cyclone and the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan will dump rains in most parts of the country as we observe the annual All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day or Undas.

At 3:00 AM today, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) was spotted at 125 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. According to PAGASA Weather Forecaster Gener Quitlong, the LPA is forecast to hit Visayas and Northern Palawan. It may also intensity into a tropical cyclone before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon is dominant in Northern Luzon.

Today, Aurora, Quirino and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate rains and thunderstorms. Visayas and the regions of MIMAROPA, Bicol, Caraga, Davao, Northern Mindanao and the rest of CALABARZON will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. In Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cordillera and the rest of Cagayan Valley Region, cloudy skies with light to moderate rains will prevail. In Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies will be experienced with isolated light rains. In the rest of Mindanao, partly cloudy to cloudy skies will prevail with possible isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Those who will flock to cemeteries across are encouraged to bring umbrellas as rains are likely to continue until Friday. Here’s the special weather outlook for Undas 2017:

Jolina exits PAR; weather improves

Tropical Storm Jolina has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
From a Low Pressure Area (LPA), the weather disturbance intensified into a Tropical
Depression Thursday afternoon and made landfall in Casiguran, Aurora Friday evening. At 5:00 AM today, the storm with international name “Pakhar” was located at 595 kilometers northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte and continues to move westward to China.

With the absence of Jolina, weather condition is expected to improve except in areas where the Southwest Monsoon prevails. Today, the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, and Pampanga will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and possible thunderstorms. The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have generally fair weather except for isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Another Weather Disturbance

In an interview with Panahon TV, PAGASA Weather Forecaster Chris Perez said that a potential weather disturbance is being monitored in the eastern section of the West Philippine Sea. If the cloud clusters would develop into a tropical cyclone, it will not enter PAR but may boost the Southwest Monsoon.

Based on climatological records, an average of two to four tropical cyclones can develop or enter PAR in August.

After dumping rains in some parts of Caraga, Davao Region and Palawan, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has already weakened and dissipated.

However, PAGASA Weather Forecaster Glaiza Escullar said that the Tail-End of a Cold Front remains dominant in the eastern section of Northern Luzon.

On the last day of January 2017, cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera and the province of Aurora.

For areas under Ilocos Region, cloudy skies with light rains will prevail.

In the remaining parts of the country including Metro Manila, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will be experienced.

Gale warning remains in the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon where rough to very rough seas are expected.

Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves that could reach as high as 3.4 to 4.5 meters.

The Ridge of High Pressure Area remains to be the dominant weather system affecting the country particularly over Northern Luzon.

This weather system associated with fair weather condition will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies in the following hours. However, thunderstorm formation is still possible mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, making sea travel fairly easy and breezy with light to moderate winds.

Temperature in Metro Manila plays between 25 to 36°C. Expect to feel a heat index of at least 40.1°C especially after lunch.

Meanwhile, all commuters taking the Metro Rail Transit are advised to leave earlier than usual as queues are expected to be quite longer today. With airconditioning problems, only 9 out of 20 trains will be operational. Avoid the rush hours if possible and bring drinking water to avoid dehydration while waiting for your train to arrive.

On this first day of June, warm and humid weather will continue in the Philippines as the Ridge of High Pressure Area affects Northern Luzon. This weather system brings partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Despite the cloudiness seen over the East Philippine Sea, State Meteorologist Jori Loiz says that the country will remain bagyo-free this week.

He reminds students to bring umbrellas to combat direct sun rays and possible thunderstorms that usually occur in the same time as afternoon classes are dismissed, or in the evening.
